If you have a triggered and ongoing smart campaign going, even if you make changes it won't affect the people already in the flow, in fact it may even complicate things. Best is to pause or remove from flow just like Christiane noted.
I would recommend TWILIO hands down. You really have everything you need and they offer a great service if you run into any issues.
