Both exams will currently actually renew your credentials. Although the approach in the new exam is slightly different, I have seen positive comments from people who have taken it.

Unfortunately @SanfordWhiteman is right. Especially Outlook does entirely its own thing when forwarding an email. I have seen hidden variables reappear but many other changes too.

As Beth mentioned, a lot depends on the smart list criteria you used. Not sure to what extent we'll be able to help you trouble shoot that, but if you post a screen shot of your smart list criteria we may be able to help you find the reason.
