Processing feedback from the blocklists is a manual process for Marketo’s Compliance team. While we try to get the reports out to you on a daily basis, sometimes we get backlogged and notifications may not go out the same day that you triggered the blocklist.   But not to worry: most blocklists are dynamic, meaning that they resolve themselves after a given time period or when email statistics improve. Typically blocklist issues are resolved after 24 hours, so chances are you are not still being blocklisted.   Still, you need to complete the blocklist remediation program to identify the source of the problem and ensure that this doesn’t happen again. While most blocklist issues resolve themselves, they can have a noticeable impact on deliverability. Furthermore, being blocklisted is an indication that you have a problematic data source in your lists that could lead to even bigger deliverability problems.   For a quick run down of the blocklists that our customers run into trouble with the most, visit our Top Blocklists article.   Additional resources: Blocklists: Frequently Asked Questions Blocklists: Frequently Asked Questions

  Issue User Receives Communication Failure Error / bandaid when creating a new Email from a custom Template due to unapproved snippet. Resolution Email templates can contain code to reference a snippet by ID: <div class="mktoSnippet" id="FooterText" mktoName="Footer Text" mktoDefaultSnippetId="3"></div> If the snippet is not approved then a new email asset cannot be created, and instead a bandaid error occurs.   The snippet should be approved first before the template is used.    If the ID of the snippet in the HTML is 3 and the pod sj27, the URL to the asset would be Login | Marketo

Summary Marketo-only records must be manually synced, become a member of a default-program, encounter a Salesforce flow step in order to sync with Salesforce. Issue Records are in the Marketo database but are not syncing over to Salesforce automatically like I thought they would. Solution The sync between Marketo and Salesforce is bi-directional. However, in order for a record to be synced, one of the following conditions must be met: The record becomes a member of a program which is synced to a Salesforce campaign. This occurs when the background sync is used to keep members of a Salesforce campaign in sync with a Marketo Program status. This can easily be verified by navigating to the program and looking at the summary view. More information on this feature can be found here: https://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/Sync+an+SFDC+Campaign+with+a+Program https://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/SFDC+Sync%3A+Campaign+Sync The record encounters an SFDC flow step. Any time a record encounters a Salesforce related flow step in a smart campaign, this will cause the record to sync with Salesforce. Some of these flow steps have other implied actions, which you can read about here: https://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/Implied+Salesforce+Actions The record is manually synced to Salesforce through a single-flow action. This is an intentional user action. It can only occur when you find the record in your database or in the people tab of a smart list and select the option from the 'Person Actions' menu. More on how to do this can be found in this document: https://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/Run+a+Single+Flow+Step+from+a+Smart+List Root Cause Records had not encountered SFDC flow steps, become members of a program synced with a Salesforce campaign and hat not been manually synced to Salesforce. Our sync employs a field level conflict resolution mechanism. For a particular record, if field X is updated in Microsoft Dynamics CRM and field Y is updated in Marketo, then we will update Marketo with the new value for field X and Microsoft Dynamics CRM with the new value for field Y.  In the case where the same field is updated on both systems for a particular record with a short period of time, we will choose the Marketo value as the winner for Leads and the Microsoft Dynamics CRM value as the winner for Contacts.

We have enhanced the behavior of the unsubscribe functionality to make it “durable”.  We have added a master email status, which is separate from the unsubscribe flag visible on the lead detail record.   If the unsubscribe flag is set from false to true, the master email status is updated, and the change is propagated to other leads with the same email address. Update the Unsubscribe flag from True to False (e.g. Re-subscribe a lead) When a lead is imported, the unsubscribe flag WILL NOT be overwritten by the import. Here are the ways a lead can be re-subscribed: 1.   In SFDC, uncheck the Email Opt Out field.  This WILL sync to Marketo. 2.   Manually update the lead detail record by un-checking the unsubscribe flag 3.   Run a Change Data Value Flow Action on one or many leads a.  Select the attribute “unsubscribe” and set the value to False 4.   Update an existing lead via SOAP API 5.   Form Field – set a field on a form to set the unsubscribe flag to “false” and this will unsubscribe the lead a. Best practice would be to have text on the form that says that by filling out this form, they are agreeing to receive email communication Creating a New Lead When a new lead is created, we check it against the master email status table.  If the lead was previously unsubscribed, we will update the record to be unsubscribed.   Changing an email address If you change the email address of a lead to an unsubscribed email address, the lead will be unsubscribed.  This change can occur in either Marketo or SFDC. If you change an unsubscribed email address to one that is subscribed, the lead will be subscribed.

Overview A triggered campaign launches automatically when a specific action occurs. For example, you can use a triggered campaign to automatically send an email to a lead after she completes a form. Triggered campaigns have at least one trigger in their Smart List. When the lead activates a trigger and passes through the other filters in the Smart List (if you have any), the lead will immediately proceed through the campaign's Flow. In a Smart Campaign, the Smart List palette contains a separate folder with Triggers. These are the events you can use to activate your triggered campaigns.   Be careful when using multiple triggers.  If you use two or more in a campaign, any single trigger can activate the campaign.   Email Triggers Trigger Name Description Clicks Link in Email If someone clicks on a link in an email. Please ensure that you have access to an experienced JavaScript developer. Marketo Technical Support is not set up to assist with troubleshooting JavaScript. Summary: Say you want to validate a custom field before someone submits a Marketo form on a Marketo landing page, then let Marketo do it's standard validation.   You can do that by overriding the formSubmit function in Javascript.  You can override it with a Custom HTML element for a single page; you can also add this Javascript to your landing page template so it affects many landing pages.   First, build a Javascript function to execute your custom validation (formIsValid() in the example below).  It should return a value of "true" if the fields validate. If not, return false.   Open the landing page for editing and drag a Custom HTML element onto the web page.  Paste in this Javascript and add your custom validation to the formIsValid() function.   <script type="text/javascript" src="/js/public/jquery-latest.min.js" language="Javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript">      // set no conflict mode for jquery   var $jQ = jQuery.noConflict();   function myFormIsValid() {     var thisIsValid = true;     // Put your custom validation here.     // If anything goes wrong, set thisIsValid to false.         // for example, show an error message if the email contains "bob"     if ($jQ("#Email[value*=bob]").length > 0) {        Mkto.setError($jQ("#Email ~ span").prev()[0],"No Bobs allowed!");        thisIsValid = false;     } else {        Mkto.clearError($jQ("#Email ~ span").prev()[0] );     }     return thisIsValid;   }   function formSubmit(elt) {     if (!myFormIsValid()) {        return false;     }     return Mkto.formSubmit(elt);   } </script> Here's another example that checks if a required checkbox, such as a terms of service agreement, is filled before submitting: <script type="text/javascript" src="/js/public/jquery-latest.min.js" language="Javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript">      // set no conflict mode for jquery var $jQ = jQuery.noConflict(); function myFormIsValid() {     var thisIsValid = true;       // show a message if they fail to check the box     if ($jQ("#TermsOfServiceAgreement").attr('checked') != true) {        Mkto.setError($jQ("#TermsOfServiceAgreement ~ span").prev()[0],"Please agree to the terms above.");        thisIsValid = false;     } else {        Mkto.clearError($jQ("#TermsOfServiceAgreement ~ span").prev()[0]);     }     return thisIsValid; } function formSubmit(elt) {     if (!myFormIsValid()) {        return false;     }     return Mkto.formSubmit(elt); } </script>   Follow these instructions if you want to retrieve the form fields via Javascript: Setting or Getting a Form Field Value via Javascript on a Landing Page The example above also shows you how to set an error field If you want to set or clear an error message on a field, you can use these two functions in your validation function. Note: These only work on form fields from the Marketo form designer. Replace the highlighted yellow bits below: Email -- the ID of the field where you want to show an error error message -- the text you want to display for this error           // error -- highlight the field           Mkto.setError($jQ("#Email ~ span").prev()[0], "error message");             // no error -- clear the field           Mkto.setError($jQ("#Email ~ span").prev()[0]);

Issue Description: Salesforce refreshed your sandbox and it no longer syncs with Marketo Issue Resolution: As a safety precaution, once an instance of Salesforce is synced up with Marketo, we no longer allow the user to sync this particular instance of Marketo with any other instance of Salesforce. When Salesforce does a “refresh” of your sandbox, they are actually canceling your old sandbox account and creating a new account and pulling fresh data from your production. This means the refreshed sandbox is actually a different account and has a new OrgID. Marketo Support can assist by unlocking your Marketo sandbox to be synced up with a refreshed Salesforce sandbox. If you run into this scenario, please create a support ticket requesting that we enable the reset of the OrgID for your SFDC sandbox.

When you ask Marketo to add a Salesforce contact to a lead queue, Marketo creates a duplicate lead in Salesforce and adds that to the queue instead. The reason why Marketo creates a duplicate is because Salesforce queues can only have leads in them, not contacts.  If you try to add a contact to a queue, Marketo can either do nothing or create a duplicate lead and add that to the queue.  We opted for the duplicate.   If you want to prevent this behavior in your campaigns, use a filter on "SFDC Type is Lead" to limit the action to only leads

When Marketing Suspended is checked in a lead's record, it will prevent any non-operational email from being sent by Marketo, including the emails sent from Marketo Sales Insight in Salesforce, which are routed through the Marketo infrastructure.   Sales Insight for Outlook or Gmail emails however, are not sent via Marketo. They are sent by the mailserver to which the client is connected; ie Google mail servers or Microsoft Exchange Servers, and are not under Marketo's control.

Say you want to keep specific Salesforce fields or records from syncing into Marketo. You can use Salesforce Profiles to restrict access to that data.     In short, Marketo will only sync fields and records that are visible to the sync account in Salesforce. If you don't want records or fields brought into Marketo, use the record- and field-level permissions to prevent the sync account from seeing them. A few notes before you begin... Depending on your version of Salesforce, you may not be able to change these settings. For example, field-level security is available only in Enterprise and Unlimited editions. This will require you to make changes in Salesforce on the account you use to sync with Marketo. If this account is also used by anyone else, these changes will impact that person's view in Salesforce too. You need administrator access in Salesforce to make these changes. If you hide a field in Salesforce that has already been synced to Marketo, it will still display in the Marketo user interface until you hide it with the Field Management tool. Even though you'll still see the field in Marketo, changes to that field will not get pushed to Salesforce.

New Lead with no email address and no Marketo cookie: If a new lead fills out a Marketo form, their Marketo cookie is created, lead details (including the cookie) will be updated and the Lead-Database and RTP sync process will be initiated. They will then be known to RTP and eligible for 1:1 personalized RTP campaigns. This sync process may take a few minutes so personalization based on lead data will be available from the lead’s next visit.   Lead with email address but no Marketo cookie: When a known lead with no cookie (e.g. a lead from a tradeshow or a list) receives a Marketo email campaign and clicks on a link in the email and arrives to the website, the RTP script runs and a new Marketo cookie is created for them. The creation of the cookie is also sent to the Lead-Database and initiates the RTP sync process for this lead. This sync process may take a few minutes so personalization based on lead data will be available from the lead’s next visit.   Known Lead with email address and Marketo cookie: Any changes to the lead’s data will be synced between the Lead-Database and RTP within 5 minutes interval.

Issue The email was sent from an engagement program or email program where Recipient Time Zone was enabled, however, emails sent to several leads were not sent based on their time zone. Solution If the time zone calculation for the affected leads falls under the conditions mentioned in https://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/Understanding+Recipient+Time+Zone, then check in [Admin > Field Management] if the Person Time Zone field is hidden. If this field is hidden, then this would be the reason as this field is where the Person's Time Zone is stored for when it is calculated and is used to determine the Recipient Time Zone for sending emails.

Issue Field labels on a form have been updated, however, they are not displaying on the Marketo Landing Page, even though the Marketo Form and Marketo Landing Page has been approved since the update. Solution The reason why it appears the updated field labels are not displaying on the Marketo Landing Page is that the field labels that are being displayed are not the field labels that were edited. The field labels that are being displayed is what is defined in the Visibility Rules of the fields. To ensure that the updated field label is displayed on the Marketo Landing Page, the field label in the Visibility Rules must also be updated https://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/Dynamically+Toggle+Visibility+of+a+Form+Field

Issue When a Marketo field is synced to a SFDC field with a picklist, that picklist will be synced to Marketo when the field is added to a Marketo form. The values section of the field in the form will show the values from SFDC. However this does not occur with the standard state field in Marketo. Solution The state field's form picklist is not updated because it is automatically populated with the 50 US states.  To get around this, you can either manually update the values in the picklist in the form, or you can use a custom Marketo field. This field can be remapped to the state field in salesforce with assistance from support.
