This issue came up in our Atlanta UG meeting yesterday. One of our members suggested that you can place a hidden field on your form that you can check for "Not Empty" in your validation workflow - if the field is not empty then the bot assumed the field was valid and would place a value in there.

Indeed. It's one reason why the email open/click heat map report in RCE is really useful.
The lead has to download images on the email for an Opened Email activity to be recognized. If the lead has an email client that doesn't download images and clicks the email link, then your activity log will have a clicked link in email without an open email event as you are seeing.
I would concur - in our market generally 48 to 72 hours is the best timeframe by which to evaluate an email.In our org, I have workspaces set up for our distinct marketing regions, so the single Email Performance & Link Performance would not be optimal.
