True enough, especially when it can also be multiple domains where the form can be embedded.
Totally agree with keeping it simple. In my experience, a lot of what is technically possible will cause issues with one email client or another, with Outlook being notorious for making quite distinct interpretations.
That would be my question as well. Because the A/B test feature in the control panel will handle the date/time test for you based on your total audience, is there still a need for two different smart lists?
Totally agree with your comments, but in addition I would not make this two smart campaigns, but simply update the first to send email 1 to the 50% randam sample and make sending email 2 your default choice. That makes it go to the other 50%. Then it is no problem that flow step 2 updates the status...

No, there is not really. If you want a field to sync between the two platforms you should create it in SFDC and select it in Marketo to be visible. If you create the field in Marketo there is no real way to link it to an SFDC field.
Sanford is right, without the link we cannot give a lot of advise. However, issues like this tend to be related to the page's css.
