Grégoire, I could have sworn you posted an idea similar to this in the past! You know I know about this and we will add it eventually. Right now, focusing on rolling out the enhanced functionality in the Email Editor. It will have this capability, as it will support modular design principles.
I think you'll find that our upcoming email reporting tool is a welcomed improvement and will likely have what you need.
We're planning to add a length counter to warn you when the subject is greater than the recommended length. But, do you really think the other stuff is useful? June 1st. You will be able to insert a variable into anywhere in the Email Template. This variable will then be editable within the Email Editor, either through a simple textbox or through a HTML Block editor (which probably makes most sense for you).
This will be totally different and likely work how you want in the new Email Editor, which comes out in the upcoming Spring release.
If you preview using a list, you are able to send a sample to recipients that include up to 100 variations for leads in that list.
This is coming in the Spring release.
