Hi All, So, we have a few types of contacts which we do not want the marketo to copy over and create as leads in marketo from Salesforce. This is so to ensure that these particular contacts are not sent out any sort of emails/invitations etc etc from marketo (even by mistake!). Its a huge no-no! ( A very serious legal matter!) So, basically, I do not want these special types of contacts to be created in marketo at all! How do I ensure this? Please help! Its very important, and urgent! Thanks so much! Apurva

Hi All, I understand that the sync between Salesforce and Marketo keys off of email id of the leads. But, is there any other field which I use as the primary key for this sync? Is this modifiable? I was looking for SFDC record id, which will be unique, even if there are multiple leads/contacts with the same email id in salesforce. Can I change this sync to key off sfdc record id? or something besides email id? Because we have a situation where the email id for is the same for 3 different accounts, and it keeps updating only one lead. How do I stop this? Thanks in advance!

Thanks Julz. I will try this out, and let you know. I think I will only keep the option "Salesforce sync" unchecked, so that the Marketo Lead gets updated from Salesforce, and from nowhere else. I have few questions though - 1. Since the source of truth is SFDC now, what will happen if we create a new Lead in SFDC? How will it be created in Marketo? 2. Since the source of truth is SFDC now, what will happen if we create a new Contact in SFDC? How will it be created in Marketo? 3. All the other updates to the existing Leads/Contacts in SFDC will get updated to Marketo, correct? 4. Even if we merge/delete in SFDC, it will update isDeleted in Marketo, correct? In short, I want the sync to be entirely from SFDC --> Marketo only.

Thanks for link, Julz. But, isn't this blocking for updates in Marketo? I remember this setting, and I have applied it to untrusted import lists. It helps in not updating the field in Marketo, and not in salesforce. If someone goes in and changes the name, it will go and update the SFDC name field in the next sync. Do you have any other idea? Or am I missing something here? Have you tested this out?

We want to stop the sync from Marketo to Salesforce. I did revoke the FLS to edit for my Marketo Profile in Salesforce, but the standard fields such as Lead First name, Last name, email, etc..cannot be changed. Is there a way I can stop this from Marketo? We only want our Leads/Contacts to be updated from SFDC, and not the other way round, keeping on source of truth, which is SFDC. Any ideas? SO IN NEED OF THIS NOW!

Hi, Market has a field called Email Invalid, and we want to sync this field to our new SFDC field. How can I achieve this? I do not see any option to do so in the Lead Actions on this field in the Marketo. Thanks!

Thanks so much Greg . You have saved a lot of my time here. If I want to test this out in my sandbox first, how do I do this? Currently, my marketo account is enabled for production. I read in the product docs that once you enable the sync, you cannot stop it. I would want to test out a few things with my marketo and salesforce sync, since we are changing a lot of sync settings for contact/leads/accounts. Is there a way I can achieve this?

Thanks Greg! So, just to be double sure, if I remove the edit perms from the SFDC profile, it will not update SFDC? Also, it will be visible to Marketo, and won't affect updates in Marketo? In other words, the sync will only happen from SFDC to Marketo? Correct?

Hi! I'm pretty new to Marketo, so still figuring this out. One of my colleagues reported that when they changed the contact info in Salesforce, it got overridden from Marketo later on. Is there a way I can stop this? I want my Marketo account to sync only from SFDC, and I want to stop the sync from Marketo->SFDC. Trying to capture everything at one place, and making that as the source of truth, and moving all that to Marketo to avoid such overrides and duplicates. Please help on a solution to acive the same. Thanks!

After a thorough debug, I realized it's a combination of Contact Triggers & Account workflow rules which was causing this. Luckily, it isn't changing any record! Thanks for all your help.

Thanks Geoffrey Krajeski ! But by removing the edit perms for the marketo profile in salesforce, will also stop the sync between marketo account info and salesforce? I read it somewhere to give right permissions in marketo, we need those fields to be visible for the marketo profile.

Thanks Greg! I do not believe that has been activated by the support. We never asked for it. Also, there are no custom triggers from our end to stimulate this update on account. I see that the updated timestamps on contact and account are precisely the same. So, something is triggering an update on the account, and we do not want this to happen. How do I stop this? I have also noticed that whenever an Interesting moment is captured on the contact, it updates the contact(which is fine), but that contact's Account is also getting updated somewhere. Hard to figure out what is getting updated here. Only the lastmodifiedby and data/time are helping me right now to figure out this. How do I stop this? Is this a standard Marketo behavior?
