Agreed on your point for the merging of duplicates. However, we have been able to change that using custom dedupe solution in Marketo. That helps us choose which date should be kept as created date when the records are merged.

Agree that MSI is very useful for LDRs. However, I am seeing many companies who just want LDRs to set up meeting and not use Salesforce extensively. And since SFDC licenses could become a big cost, companies avoid issuing separate licenses to the LDRs.

You can ask the support to change the mapping of a custom Marketo field with another field in SFDC, if that field is visible to the Marketo user. As a best practice, it is always better to create a new field in CRM and then let it sync over to MKTO.
