They don't need to be part of Marketo. Go to the sales insights part of admin, click on "Email Add In" tab, then click issue license and type in their email addresses. They'll receive instructions on what to do.

I've had this happen a number of times with embedded forms. It has something to do with Java/their browser and there is pretty much nothing you can do except send them a follow up email asking for the information. (IE if regarding field = not provided, then send email with form to collect etc).
Have you visited templates.marketo.com? You can take those templates (especially the responsive ones!) and manipulate them to reflect your brand/company. I created all my forms completely net-new and set up a redirect rule for the pages that were effected by the old form.
