I've created a number of Unbounce landing pages and have installed the Munchkin tracking code on them. Unfortunately, it doesn't look as if the activity data from Munchkin is flowing back into the lead record. When a lead submits a form, the lead is added to the static list in Marketo reserved for Unbounce conversions, but none of those leads have Munchkin information (AnonymousIP, Original Referrer, etc) populated -- those fields are simply blank.
Unbounce support had advised that I needed to create hidden fields on the form and map them to Marketo fields, but that didn't seem to work, either.
Has anyone successfully gotten Munchkin to track on Unbounce landing pages? How did you get it to work?
Here is a great blog post about unbounce landing pages
New Feature: Marketo Integration - Marketing Strategy - Unbounce Community
Have you checked to see if your Munchkin code is firing? Here is a simple way to check
No. That blog post is terrible and useless. Don't use that integration: it does not work for real-world Marketo use.
I wasn't telling anyone to use it, I was offering it as a resource. 😃
It's not a great blog post, however, nor a useful resource (i.e. correct guide) on this topic. It only sets the discussion back. The reason this topic exists is that their integration is junk.
My apologies for posting a terrible junk blog.
Oh and for interfering with your conversation. Have a blessed day.
I know it doesn't feel good to have someone say you posted bad info, since you weren't purposely trying to mislead.
But the Community has numerous examples (well, a tiny minority given the overall number of posts, but they stick out to me because ideally there wouldn't be any) of discussions looping back to reference the exact broken/missing/wrong feature that started the post in the first place.
One thing that contributes to that, which certainly isn't your fault, is that the person who started the discush didn't mark any of the answers as Correct, so it seems like any of the previous (or future) answers might be the right one. Usually, there is a right answer (in this case, the right answer is "the Unbounce API integration does not function in the way that Marketo users expect, as well as having a DoS vulnerability, and you should instead use a browser-side integration, which is easier, faster, better, and more complete") but it's not formally acknowledged.
All you need do is be sure that a resource is helpful before linking to it. Many vendor-supplied resources are in fact designed to mislead. It's marketing.
I completely understand, generally out of respect, I just ignore people to not seem pretentious. I know it doesn't feel good to have someone say you need to work on your tact in your responses, but you never know when you might meet them again. People skills are just as important.
However, that response is much better, and I appreciate your feedback.
I'm hoping to retarget known leads already in Marketo and send them to Unbounce landing pages. Is that working with the integration (i.e. is the Munchkin behaving as expected)?
I'll take any pointers you may have!
Unbounce's built-in integration is a joke.
Turn it off and build a custom (yet simple) integration and it'll actually work.
Would integrating with Salesforce be better? We can rely on the Salesforce sync to get it into Marketo if that's a better path.
On second thought, I now see I'm sacrificing too much in Unbounce compared to Marketo landing pages. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get good with those.
Yeah, each has advantages. I think Unbounce pages are pretty (in an obviously templated sort of way). But it's not super-cheap (even if it fits in most companies' budgets) and you lose tokenization, segmentations, and all that.
Right - when I realized I can have a single Marketo landing page that serves up different content for any number of segments, that pretty much wrapped up the decision!
I was *just* working on my HOWTO blog post on this -- literally cropping screenshots. It's going to take a couple days to go up, though. As with most such platforms, there's a lot of hand-waving about so-called integration, but no one at Unbounce really understands how to work it. It is quite possible, though.
Sanford, did you ever do a blog post on the how to for unbounce and Marketo?
I never posted it, but if you hit me offline I can walk you through it.
Hi Sanford Whiteman - looking forward to your blog post! Struggling with the same issue here.
I did leave this hanging, largely b/c my CFO doesn't like expenses where I go, "Oh, um, that $99/mo is to do research for a blog post... gonna go cancel that now!"
I can show you how to do it on a sample form on your UB subscription, though. Write me at sandy@teknkl.com.
