Traditionally Digesto and FeedOtter have been known for automating RSS email/blog updates. FeedOtter has a second product that was built to address the primary question of newsletters that relates directly to the original question.
Rather than automate the email content/creation. It connects to the APIs of WordPress, NewsCred, UberFlip, GoogleDocs, and generic CMS systems ad-hoc. It gives the user an interface to drag and drop content items into an email template/design.
We hear Brian's question frequently from companies that publish newsletters using a team of editors. Ideally the editors do not have to enter Marketo to construct the email. Rather, they can use a simple interface to select content and layout the email leaving the Marketo settings to the email team/person.
