I think for us, and perhaps everyone, is the ability to get the data out of Marketo to blend together with other sources and to place into a datawarehouse. The API limits are very very limiting

There is no question that Velocity is great feature but it does have its fairly significant drawbacks - can't be used with Snippets, spome of the more useful VTL libs are not switched to name a few.
To remove any of the gaps in content created by velocity - add a ## at the of each variable you output - this will remove it.
Yep, this is an out of the box feature for Marketo (as long as the record is known to Marketo)
