Did you try making the entire string part of your Email Script token, not just the £100 GBP ? I'd try that to see if it alleviates the rendering issue.

While I don't think it's explicitly forbidden, spaces in naming conventions are notoriously unreliable. How many lists are you trying to upload? If you're trying to import more than two lists, the other list imports will get queued. Sometimes this leads to an import time out as well.
