Sounds like you have the right approach.If you want to be sure they don't receive the mid-stream emails again, then you should keep the midstream in there, turn off its Transition rules and remove everyone. As soon as you remove the emails, Marketo forgets they existed.
Ok, trying this again.I recommend using an 8 day drip campaign with Must End On Weekday. No Engagement.For an Engagement to work, you could try 2 streams, swapping leads between each. Getting that cadence right with the transition will be hard. 8 Day Pause with a Daily Cadence. That might work.
