Having gone round the houses with Adobe - you dont need AEM 6.5, if you have the latest AEM 6.4.4 service pack you'll be able to enable this. Currently waiting for my dev team to do so and will report back!

this has been done by Adobe on the AEM side now:https://docs.adobe.com/content/help/en/experience-manager-learn/forms/aem-forms-with-marketo/part1.html it requires AEM6.5 to be setup so i'll have to go thru an updgrade cycle to be able to utilize but keen to get this one working!
