I've used both regularly, and definitely think things such as event invites or more personalized content is better in a text email, but promotional/marketing/branding emails are great in HTML.

I have used different segments for dynamic content within emails. When you make the content dynamic it will ask you what segmentation you want to use.I

In both instances I've worked in I've had on average 4 landing pages and 4 email templates.

I've never experienced a problem with progressive profiling not working on all browsers. Have you cleared your cache and browser and tried again. If you're still getting the issue I'd speak to support.

That is very odd! When you click 'View campaign Members' in the Add to Nurture Campaign, what does that show? Can you see all 4076 members per the summary page of the smart campaign?
