Marketo is pulling data from Salesforce, but not pushing data to Salesforce?

Hi all,

We have fields in Marketo mapped to Salesforce.

These fields have pulled data from Salesforce to Marketo (we don't want and have now used the option to "Block data from - Salesforce".

But the data isn't being pushed from Marketo to Salesforce. The integration user has read and write access to these fields.

How can we update which direction the data flows for these fields?

Thanks!

Well, do you see any errors when you try syncing person record to Salesforce post making updates at the Marketo's end? You may have field validations in place that you might be riunning into, you'll see the errors in person's activity log in Marketo in case you're running into such errors. Also, there might be a case where the person you are trying to sync belongs to a record group that sync user doesn't have access to.

There are no sync errors, and other fields are updating correctly.
There are 0 field validations on these specific fields, the integration user has all the correct field level and record level permissions also.

Hi -

A few thoughts/questions to consider:

- Did you get page layouts set up correctly in SFDC to showcase said fields.

- Are the fields custom fields?  if so - Any custom fields in Salesforce need to be connected to a corresponding field (from lead to contact) to ensure that data can be carried over.

- May be worth looking at your field permissions? This helps you ensure the right data is moved across to the right fields.

Re: Marketo is pulling data from Salesforce, but not pushing data to Salesforce?

Hi Alice!

Yes, all correct fields are in the page layout.

They are all custom fields, they were mapped incorrectly so we recently had Marketo support map them to the correct corresponding fields. The data from the blank fields was overwriting the data in Marketo, so the relationship works, just in the wrong direction!

I have also double check the field level security in Salesforce, the integration user has read/write on all of them.

Its quite strange!

Thanks!

Re: Marketo is pulling data from Salesforce, but not pushing data to Salesforce?

Just an FYI that blocking field updates blocks updates to non-empty field values, if the field is empty in the first place, then the data would still be written to it even though the updates from that respective input source are blocked. Also, for Marketo-only records, you'd have to first sync the person over to SFDC implicitly (e.g., adding to an SFDC campaign) or explicitly (via Sync person to SFDC flow step). Did you have issues related to data not being updated to fields in SFDC from Marketo before re-mapping?

This might be a silly question but are you sure they are the same field on the same object?

One of the things i've had to deal with is that our SFDC dev team has created a number of fields that are the "same" field on different objects but they are not tied together. Its caused some wacky things similar to this in the past.
