Landing page activity not being accurately tracked?

Anyone having issues with webpage visits not being tracked correctly? We have a trigger campaign that is looking for visits to specific Marketo landing pages built for a program. Not sure if this is relevant, but these landing pages will be shared via social channels and not in email. In our tests, activity to these landing pages isn’t being tracked even though the test contact we're using is a cookied/known contact. Activity to these pages isn’t showing in webpage activity reports. It's also not showing in the activity log of the known lead we’re testing it on. So in turn, the trigger campaign isn't firing. I know it can sometimes take awhile for activity to update/show, but we're going on 24 hrs and still no data.

Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Re: Landing page activity not being accurately tracked?

Hi Kristen

The most common reason why this happens is because the Marketo cookie on your browser is not linked the the actual contact in Marketo. This can happen especially easily on your internal computers because you might have entered forms with various email addresses for testing purpose.

Do these LP's have a form? If so, is prefill enabled and is it working, meaning you see the fields with your lead information automatically posted there? If so, then the cookie / lead association is correct.

A trick I use sometimes is to put the following token {{lead.id}} at the bottom of the page, below the footer (in a guided LP, you may have to do this in the template). when you land on the LP, if the lead is recognized, the lead ID will display, enabling you to cross check with the Marketo DB.

Re: Landing page activity not being accurately tracked?

Thanks for the tip. That's exactly the issue. Any additional tips on getting the Marketo browser cookie re-linked with the Marketo contact?

Re: Landing page activity not being accurately tracked?

Cleanse your cookies, then come back to the Marketo LP and fill out a form. You'll will get a new cookie that will be correctly attached to your lead in Marketo.

URL?

Did you code this from scratch? Does the munchkin code appear on the page?
