How to set up stream and cadence of engagement program

Hi, I have a few questions about setting up streams and cadences for the Engagement program as a beginner. I’d appreciate it if you could provide some answers.

  • Question1: What happens to leads who finish consuming all the content in a stream but do not progress to the next phase?
  • Question2: If the number of available content pieces is limited and leads consume all of them, are they simply left unattended until the next content is ready? Are there any suggestions, such as connecting them to other programs?
  • Question3: I’ve heard that cadence settings in streams do not allow excluding holiday delivery. How do you handle this? Do you just proceed with sending emails on holidays?
  • Question4: If an engagement program is temporarily paused during periods like the New Year, how is the delivery schedule recalculated when the program resumes?

Thanks!

Re: How to set up stream and cadence of engagement program

Hi @Risako ,

Welcome to the world of Marketo.🚀

  • Question1: What happens to leads who finish consuming all the content in a stream but do not progress to the next phase? - When a person has received every piece of content in a stream, it has exhausted all possibilities and will wait idle until more is added. You can read more about leads with Exhausted Content here.
  • Question2: If the number of available content pieces is limited and leads consume all of them, are they simply left unattended until the next content is ready? Are there any suggestions, such as connecting them to other programs? - Yes, if the leads have consumed all content in a stream they will be just be in the stream until new content is added or they are removed/transitioned. Suggestion: If the leads in your stream have not engaged with your content it means that they are currently not aligned with your product/services & its advisable to shift them to an empty stream rather then to connect them to any other program.
  • Question3: I’ve heard that cadence settings in streams do not allow excluding holiday delivery. How do you handle this? Do you just proceed with sending emails on holidays? This statement is partially True, if with holidays you mean weekends, than you can definitely set your cadence in a way to exclude weekend. You can read more about stream cadence here. But if holiday means festive holidays then Yes you cannot set cadence to exclude them with native Marketo, but you can use 3rd party services to achieve this
  • Question4: If an engagement program is temporarily paused during periods like the New Year, how is the delivery schedule recalculated when the program resumes? Stream will follow the same cadence as set before the program was paused. That means if your program cadence is set to run every Thursday when you paused & if you turn ON your program on Friday than your next cast will go on Thursday the next week.

Hope this helps 😊

Hi @uditmathur ,

Thank you for your help!

Could you explain the purpose of moving unresponsive leads to an empty stream? Does this mean they are simply parked there to ensure no further emails are sent to them?

Re: How to set up stream and cadence of engagement program

Hi @Risako ,

I will assign 2 reasons

1. Putting the exhausted leads in to a separate (empty) stream & not removing them will allow you to track all their  attribution in reporting.

2. This will also safeguard their accidental transition to any other active stream which might occur due to their lead score from any other programs/ campaigns.

Hope this helps 😊
