Has anyone started using the Cvent / Marketo integration yet?

I was curious as to:

1. How well it is working for you.
2. Were you able to negotiate the license fee with Cvent?
3. How helpful were they in helping with the setup?

Thanks!

Hey Chris,

We just did the integration with Cvent and it's AWESOME!

1. How well it is working for you.

It's working perfectly and adding our registrants to a static list so they aren't sent duplicate invites. Super awesome.

2. Were you able to negotiate the license fee with Cvent?

We looked at a number of vendors prior and their integration price was actually $500 cheaper than other integrations, and was seriously the easiest thing ever. No joke.

3. How helpful were they in helping with the setup?

The setup documentation is super simple--it's almost too good. They told me it would take an hour, and it took only 20 minutes. It was almost too easy--I was a little weary about it working since it was so simple.

1.  Do you create a new event in Cvent or in Marekto?

You basically create the campaign you want in marketo, then cvent 'sees' the campaign you created and sends leads over based on your criteria as outlined in cvent.

2.  How do you sync the event detail between Cvent and Marketo?

You basically choose the details you want to sync then can send them to corresponding campaigns in Marketo and/or SFDC.

Hope this helps!

We're looking into using Cvent just because of the Marketo/SFDC integration. I was shocked to see an integration price -- past launchpoint integrations I've used lets us set them up without a fee. So it's nice to see on here that other people did mention a cost for the integration.

Did the November 2014 update help anyone experiencing issues?

Do you have to integrate both SFDC and Marketo? Or just pick one of them?

Any update or advice would be super helpful.

Thanks!
Sara

This is my $0.02 - I would only integrate one of them so you make sure that Marketo (your Marketing tool) is the system of truth for all of your campaign activity and you are integrating your Cvent events in such a way that they fit within the Marketo hub of activity.  The Marketo program will integrate with SFDC through the campaign synch, which will accomplish the integration you need between Salesforce and Cvent.

We are having issues with Cvent's session-level integration.  The API works very well for event to program synching, but we have found that when we attempt to tie sessions to programs through the API that Cvent is breaking and not sending all of the leads over to us.  We have raised this concern with them.

I hope that this helps.

Hello, wanted to re-open this thread and check back on whether the November update resolved the issues you all were facing. We are working on integrating Cvent with Marketo and had concerns about management of different registrant types as well as country codes.

Would appreciate any current feedback on the integration and any workarounds you might be using.

Thanks!

Hi Mandy,

I can only offer our experience. The Cvent product itself is great but the Marketo integration was a total let down.

We've had issues with country field mapping. Leads that are created by Cvent don't synch to Salesforce because they use country codes (e.g. UK) instead of the full country label (e.g. United Kingdom).

We also had issues with the API integration, only 50% of the leads mapped to the correct campaign. Ultimately, this meant that we still had manually upload lists.

We've been told that a signifcant overhaul is coming in November which will resolve these issues.

Regarding your questions:

- 1 - The event is created in Cvent. You only need to create Smart Campaigns and lists in Marketo. We also opted to send the email invites from Marketo.
2 - There is an API integration. This needs some intital configuration to map the fields. Once this is done you need to create a corresponding program with lists and smart campaigns in Marketo. In Cvent, you link the event to these programs.

Hope that helps.

Hi,
We are looking into the Cvent Marketo Integration. Can someone share your experiences, please? Any issues?

I also have couple questions:

1.  Do you create a new event in Cvent or in Marekto?
2.  How do you sync the event detail between Cvent and Marketo?

Thanks

Hey Chris, I sent your note to your Account Manager, Matt, to get in touch and help you get some answers.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for posting as well.  I am definitely interested in learning more about triggering based on registrant type - we may be using that as well.

We just had the integration added to our agreement and it is working fairly well (Drew - I am using segmentations in Marketo to opt out the sync for my org... that could be an option for you).  I would like some more information about the data synch options and how they would apply.  It appears that the only wholesale synch is from Cvent --> Marketo which concerns me a little at this point.  The synch from Marketo --> Cvent appears to be on an event-by-event basis and the only search option available is a Marketo list.

Additionally, how would we synch up our Munchkin to the Cvent event pages so we can track page views for scoring?

Hey Kevin, thanks for responding here. I actually have communicated this feedback to our account manager, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing future releases that support things like reg type.

Hey Drew - love the feedback on the Cvent>Marketo integration.  I'm part of the Cvent Marketing team, and we worked very closely with Technology to define the requirements.  Agree with you that the feature set was lightweight to begin with, but we are releasing an update this month, and several additional pushes are planned through the end of the year.  I believe reg type is on the list.

Have you been able to communicate your feedback to our product management team?  I'd love for them to hear from our users directly.  Hit me up directly at KevinY (at) cvent (dot) com if you're interested on jumping on a call/giving them a piece of your mind 🙂

Hi Danny, we're in a unique situation where we have two wholly distinct audiences. Imagine Mint.com or HomeAway, who have an audience of users who are provided with a free service, and then an audience of B2B professionals who are provided with a paid service to reach that audience. We have events where members of both audiences attend, but my marketing team is only responsible for communicating with one of the audiences. Even if we had responsiblity for both, though, we'd want to communicate with registrants differently based on their audience, and Cvent's integration with Marketo doesn't currently allow for that. It's a small feature, but unfortunately a deal breaker for us.

Hey Drew - I just wanted to ask, what are the two types of registrants that you guys have and why would you opt out of messaging someone after they registered for your event?

Thanks!

We reviewed it with Cvent, but decided not to use it. One big miss is they don't give you the ability to trigger actions based on the registrant type. For us, that's huge, because we have two separate audiences, and we only message to one via Marketo, so if someone from the other audience registers for an event, we don't want to sync them over to Marketo.

Also, I kinda wish the integration would've been more like the GTW or Webex integration so we could control the form, landing page, etc. I'm sure it's tough in terms of the payment collection process, though.
