I don't see an easy way to do this.  Has anyone seen a work around to this?

You could experiment doing it by using different status's like I do below:

If it's a big event, I give everyone a Pending Approval status, then manually tag them as Registered after review, we also send them an email saying that Registration is pending approval. Once they are registered, we then send them a confirmation email, we do this manually, but you could automate this by doing a Recurring Batch Campaign.

Hello - I've followed this but still can't set a cap on numbers for each program status? How do I add this?

No, this is not possible.

If you search for "event registration cap" you may find some old threads. The "workarounds" are hardly that.

What you can do:

  1. email a smart list to yourself each day of the total Members with Status=Registered.
  2. Use a third party tool like eventbrite that does have this functionality.
  3. vote up the Idea for this.
