@kami   How do you prefer to learn? reading documents, watching videos or a tutor lead course.

Sometime a variety helps depending on the content.

Videos on YouTube were a good source for me when I first started, some of the visuals look a little different but the terminology and process is the same.

Joe Reitz - Marketo-FU on YouTube. Once in YourTube search Marketo and your topic a you will see a variety of videos by Adobe partners (usually agencies/consultants). Match these to your own instance and work through.

The Adobe Marketo Documents are the most detailed and up todate.

Ask any questioning the community and the search will provide a number of options form documents/comments/blog posts and will highlight recommended to show the closed to your search request.

Hi all,

Let's get started with section 1 - Understanding and Building Programs

You can open the link, read through section 1, which includes 39% of exam questions, in the next week, and post any questions you have in this thread. Questions may relate to the document or your own instance.

At the end of the week, I will have a mini quiz based on the section that is in line with exam questions so you get a feel of the exam style (multiple choice); I will monitor this thread during the week to answer your questions.

1. Understanding Programs

Programs represent a single marketing initiative. You can think of them as containers with all the stuff that you need to make the program work—these are called local assets and include Landing Pages, email, Smart Campaigns, and more. Programs do a lot, but it’s easy to get started.

There are four types of programs:

  1. Event Programs
  2. Engagement Programs
  3. Email Programs
  4. Default Programs

The Understanding Programs section covers details on the 4 types of programs in Marketo: Program Membership, Head Start & Abort Email programs, default programs, cloning, tag used in programs, period costs ($$ spent per activity/lead/new person), Event Channels and look at nurture streams.

I usually post on Sunday evening or Monday morning, but yesterday was Independence Day in the US and a Public holiday in the UK.

For those that havent added an intro or any specific questions please add when you can and follow along with the training sections.

Thanks, Zoe

@Zoe_Forman - Can you give an other example (or even a few different ones) of default programs?

Zoe_Forman
Level 10 - Community Advisor + Adobe Champion

Hi @canneberg

There are many uses for default programs - default programs can house a wide range of activities within them, from lead scoring to serving as parent programs for sub-programs. They’re like the Swiss Army knife of Marketo Engage, accommodating various marketing tasks and asset...

Or the Parent Default Program that contains many child programs such as emails, events for  a specific Promotional campaign you want keep together.

Default programs are used for operational programs where you may have many executable campaigns included inside.

I use Default programs as a container for testing or investigations, to add a number of Smart Lists to look at say audiences or investigate and issue.

Another use for the Default Program is to host solus emails (third party advertising emails) for example if a publication only wants a HTML supplied but will not get sent from your own Marketo instance, I create the email asset in a shell Default program called Solus Emails.

Default programs can be used for on-demand or gated assets and if you have a few email programs that you want to keep together but not enough to build an Engagement / Nurture program.

Try and keep your Default programs tidy in folders such as investigation / testing / souls emails so easy to find.

Ensure you keep a good naming convention even for testing and investigations so you can find and return to them.

Does this help?

@Zoe_Forman  Hi Zoe! I hope it is fine to ask here this, I´m trying to create some local assets within a program (smart list, email and smart campaign) and I´m getting this error:

Does anyone know why I´m getting it and how can I trouble shoot it? I was able to create those local assets an hour ago.

@Ranakaren18

AH that what we call a 'Marketo Moment' - usually a browser refresh will sort it out. Just check that last changes have been saved /approved as can sometimes be skipped.

You can check you Campaign Queue to see if there is anything taking its type to process and sync to your CRM. Also check your notifications to see if you have an unusually high number of errors.

Occasionally your 'pod' that your instance is sitting on is having a surge of activity from one of your neighbours - like too many people on a low bandwidth WIFI if they are processing a huge campaign.

@Zoe_Forman thank you very much! it was actually a change of browser what fixed it 🙂

@Ranakaren18

Yes Marketo can behave differently depending on the browser.

I use FIREFOX as my default but sometimes jump to EDGE and found out CHROME is best or recommended for the exams.

@Ranakaren18

I asked ChatGPT and this is what it said to try, not sure of accuracy.

The error message indicates a JavaScript loading issue within Adobe Marketo. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix this issue:

1. **Clear Browser Cache**: Sometimes cached data can cause issues with loading scripts. Clear your browser cache and cookies, then reload the page.

2. **Try a Different Browser**: Test the page in a different web browser to see if the issue is browser-specific.

3. **Disable Browser Extensions**: Some browser extensions might interfere with scripts. Temporarily disable all extensions and reload the page.

4. **Check Network Connectivity**: Ensure your internet connection is stable and not experiencing any disruptions.

5. **Update Browser**: Ensure your browser is up to date with the latest version, as outdated browsers may not support certain scripts.

6. **Developer Console**: Open the browser’s developer console (usually by pressing F12 or right-clicking the page and selecting "Inspect" or "Inspect Element") and check for any error messages that might give more context to the JavaScript error.

7. **Contact Support**: If the issue persists, contact Adobe Marketo support with the error details, session ID, and any relevant information provided in the error message.

If you try these steps and still encounter issues, please let me know, and we can explore further troubleshooting options.

Thank you Kami! I´ve never used ChatGPT but now I will consider it for my next cryptic error message haha.

Another mentee suggested using it for a different reason. I use ChatGPT and blackbox.ai for HTML and various other syntaxes, but I hadn't thought to use ChatGPT for this particular task until now. I decided to try it for your question, and it worked out well. I will definitely be using it more in the future. Just remember, if you're using the free version, avoid sharing sensitive or private information because your data might be used to train the AI and could be seen by others. For enhanced privacy, consider paying for the higher-tier package or build your own and make it private.

Love a ChatGPT Q&A 😁 🤖

Yes in summary a browser refresh will usually work, plus check the points I added to check your assets and instance errors.

It can be a local connection on your broadband / wifi

If error persists then you can submit a support Ticket and ask them to investigate - include screenshots

Hi Zoe, nice to meet you too!

What I love about cakes, cupcakes and cookies is that I can be as creative as I want 🙂

I manage all LAC region except for Brazil, so I work in Spanish. Brazil is part of LAC but since they speak Portuguese they have a specific team that manages Marketo for them.

Learning Portuguese is the next thing I want to do 🙂
