Advancing careers has been on my mind lately since I just started a new job as Senior Director of Demand Operations at F5. Having recently gone through the soul searching process to figure out what I want to do when I grow up, I've learned a lot about what career options there are, how to go about figuring out what to do with my career, how to continue to grow in my current position, and what it takes to build a support network of mentors to help guide you through that process. Both Max and myself who co-lead the Silicon Valley Marketo user group have recently landed in new marketing leadership positions. Through both our recent journeys, we have amassed so many great nuggets of information that we want to share with the broader community.
As you move up in the food chain into a marketing executive leader, you quickly learn that you will be responsible for things that you have never done before. This means that you have more questions and information that you need to gather than in previous roles. Your network is even more important than ever before. Who you ask and what you ask and who's in your network can be one of your super powers that carry you to success. I always looked up to many VPs and senior executive leaders and thought, wow they got to where they are because they have gathered all this knowledge. But in reality, the best of the best leaders, surround themselves with people that are smarter than they are and enable them to thrive. Currently as a MOPs/Marketo professional there is this great community to come here and immerse yourself to be a better MOPS person. Max and I hope to give you a boost on your career journey and share our stories with you. Both of us owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to this community for launching the success of our careers.
