At Summit there was a session dealing with tokens and concatenating them into a running activity token. It really blew my mind! I think something like that might work for your situation. I didn't see it on the summit recordings, hopefully someone will pipe up who took better notes than me!
That doesn't work for our set up - we send primarily with batch campaigns. I use the campaign email performance report to see how these campaigns perform against each other. We will have multiple campaigns under a program using the same email.
I noticed that the Campaign Email Performance Report is no longer a standard report. I can of course clone any of my existing reports and use them going forward, but I'm curious why it isn't there. It’s one of the most useful reports and we use it constantly.
