You should be able to go to your Child Smart list in Lead DB or Marketing Activities and select the Used by Tab on the Summary page. This should show all other Smart Lists which have a Member of Smart List filter referencing it.
In addition to what Murtza suggested, you may want to check field management to see that the field is not blocked from updates.
