I created few tokens at Folder level and used tokens for campaign request to send emails and  thought of removing one of these token from the folder and creating at program level. But when i try to delete i am getting the following message. 


Token is already in use and cannot be deleted

I am sure, i deleted all teh occurances of this token in email template.  Is there any dependency on anything to delete this token and how do i find that ?

Much appreciated your help.

Hi all,

This is a known bug. Support is aware and it has been escalated. We are waiting for a patch.

IN the meanwhile, we rename those useless tokens in "zz-To Be Deleted #x" and leave them there. They do no harm

This is still an issue, as far as I can see. Has anyone got an update or a better workaround please?

Hi Santosh,

You can let that token exist and create token with the same name at the program level, this will override the token and the folder token will not be reflective at program levels. This will solve the purpose although not an ideal solution.

Hi Greg - have you heard any updates on this front? I am stuck needing to delete overridden tokens and don't even have the option to rename them like you originally recommended several years ago! Any other workarounds by chance?

Hi Victoria - this thread has been marked as answered so most people won't come in here. Recommend you push this to a new thread.

Support can usually do a refresh on a program or asset in the back end to free this up. I'd recommend you log a ticket. I've had them fix this issue multiple times.

Hi Santosh,

  • The tokens can also be used in emails within that folder, not just in your email template.
  • Make sure to check whether tokens are used in your smart campaigns as well.
  • If you are sure you have deleted all tokens at the folder level, you can opt to leave the token as it is since it will probably never be used again and just create the token at Program level with a different/similar name

I would ask support if you are certain you removed the Token from ALL assets, including campaigns.
