Syncing existing Marketo data into new Microsoft Dynamics CRM field

Hello Microsoft Dynamics users. I have a bit of a stumper:

We have been collecting subscription data in Marketo for a few months now, using our Subscription Center to understand which leads prefer which types of messaging. These are managed by a series of custom Marketo boolean fields.

We are undergoing a bit of a Dynamics (2015 on-prem) redesign, and our client services organization asked to have this data populate on their contact record form.

Our CRM consultant has created identical boolean fields in CRM and we are getting ready to push this into production. My question is: Can I map these new-to-CRM fields with my already-existed-in-Marketo fields? If yes, will the data that exists currently in Marketo push to CRM, or will we have to plan a massive data import to get the values for those fields present in CRM?

Looking forward to your expertise!

Hi Tyson,

You cannot map 2 Marketo leads fields with 1 MSD field.

But it's easy to copy the values of one field into another. Use change data value flow steps with a {{lead.oldfield}} kind of tokens as the new value.

Yes, you can remap fields.  You'll need to contact support though.

About the data sync from MKTO>MSD, you may be able to get this done through support as well as a resync.

If that doesn't work out, then just export the values, email + MSD ID + field and then import that into your MSD.

You can also do that, NULL out the values in Marketo.  Then, re-import that list back into Marketo and those values will update again and sync up to MSD.

Hopefully one of the above works.

So none of these fields are mapped at all currently, I'll just need to map them to the NEW fields in CRM when our consultant pushes the new fields into production.

Jim, I love your idea of exporting everyone's preferences, nulling values, and re-importing all within Marketo. I hate wrestling with the Lead and Contact GUIDs in Marketo to import into MSD, and I'm much more comfortable manipulating data in Marketo exclusively. Any idea if this is exclusive to having the high-speed MSD connector already activated? I know that changed how Marketo and CRM pass data. I haven't been able to figure out if our instance has been upgraded to the new connector yet (strange that Marketo doesn't know if we have been or not...).

Apologies as I'm not sure about that connector.  I haven't touched anything MSD for a long time now.  However, because of the uncertainty, perhaps there is a flow action that allows you to manually the sync the lead?  So when you update the field again in Marketo, create a static list to store those records, then, create a trigger campaign to look for records added to that list and sync them?

There is one potential issue I see with this, duplicates.  Since Marketo uses email as the primary key, if you have duplicates, it may be difficult to pinpoint which one will get updated with the value, if you have duplicates.

There is no flow action that allows you to manually sync a lead back to Dynamics, only the first time you sync it. From then on, it syncs when you update it. It is a pain - with sfdc you can force a sync but you can't with Dynamics.
