Resources on opt-in legislation

Hi guys,

Is there any specific location you can recommend where you can find the local data-privacy rules with regard to email? We're looking to split our opt-in program to a country by country level and are looking for details on local legislation.

I would love to get this, but never been able to find something that looks close to accurate. Remember that many countries also have different rules for B2C than for B2B, B2C rules being the most restrictive.

Usually, Germany and The Netherlands are the strictest countries, but I would not recommend to comply with their standards for all countries. For instance, if you move to double opt-in in France, as most of visitors are not used to it, you will end up with very few mailable leads.

Here are links i've collected. I would speak to local counsel and have them review your process chart first. There is no 100% perfect source on this one.

BUT, in general

US = opt out (but I would use double opt in)

ROW = opt in or double opt in

DE = double opt in

Default - use double opt in.
