Hello everyone,
We added the munchkin code to external website properly but webpage visits data is not true. There are lots of missing visitors. Website holder sends us approximately 1500 webpage visit data via GTM but when we checked Marketo Web Page Activity this count is 200. What are we missing?
How can we solve this problem?
Well, for one thing Munchkin is not showing anonymous visits while they’re still anonymous (only after they’re known are the anonymous visits backfilled into leads’ Activity Logs).
How are you ensuring that you’re comparing apples and apples?
Hey @kaanaka,
The reason there is difference is because either you are not able to pull proper data from GTM and moreover you cannot track anonymous leads in Marketo as they might not have submitted the form or you are not capturing “gtm.formSubmit” in Data Layer Variable in the variable configuration.
Also Note: There is a difference between webpage visit and Fills out form... The leads is anonymous until the same leads fills out the form and then gets converted to a known leads.
1. Just For my knowledge are you using 3rd party forms or custom Landing page or Marketo's native form / Landing page ??
2. Have you implemented your Munchkin Tracking Code through Google Tag manager?
3. Are you sure that you have capturing events and also conversions as 1500 lead are there but marketo count is 200 the difference is too much and as far as I know 5-10% is the data that can goes missing not more than that.

Submitting a Marketo form is only 1 of 2 main ways a session is associated. The other way is by clicking a tracked link in a Marketo email, which is (far) more common than filling out a form. A 3rd way is via REST API, though this is rarely done.
In addition to the fact that anonymous visits are logged in Marketo, but not seen in the activity logs, there is a second reason. Any person that did not accept cookies will also not have their page visits tracked.
Sandy and Katja covered the reasons as-to why you may not be seeing the webpage activities in the Marketo against a known person in the database very well! One thing you could possibly check is the count of web page visits in the Webpage activity reports with the report set up to show the activities from the anonymous users as well.
Of course, this report would still not include any of the visit activities for the visitors who didn't accept the cookies (as Katja mentioned in her comment) or blocked the Munchkin script but overall you'd get a broader view of the webpage visits than just looking at the activities from the know people only.
