Hey, is there an app or a Marketo tool we can use to capture attendants during the event and send the data straight to Marketo?
Any tool integration you could advise?
Many Thanks,
Diana
Solved! Go to Solution.
For out of the box, you want the Marketo Events Check-in app. It only works on tablets (Apple and Android) but search for Marketo Events app in the app store of your choice.
Marketo Docs instructions on how to use it here. https://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/Event+Check-in
There are a lot of very well published and often discussed limitations to the out of the box app that you will find if you search the community.
Not wanting to speak against anyone here, but having the same issue (as i interpret your question) and i dont think the Marketo App helps.
- all that is good for is checking in pre-event registrants as attended.
- you cant extend it nor add any additional fields to what it exposes within the app. So useless for tradeshows.
I too am looking for a solution to take to trade shows whereby i can capture new leads from the show floor, and add in notes about discussions and required actions. Yet to find a solution. The forms idea mentioned above is interesting but i am not clear how to overcome the cookie / account activity issue.
There must be many that have walked this path before, how does everyone else do it?
- just use the third party event scanners and then import the data into Marketo ???
Thanks

Mark, we also hoped that the Events app would help, but for three main reasons found it didn't suit us. The lack of pre-registration for our events and the inability to use any fields from our Marketo in the "walk in" registration have already been covered. But the third, our main reason for looking to the app, was the off-line (i.e. when you don't have internet connectivity).
We settled on the Qualtrics app instead, being a survey tool we already used. The costs is maintaining a different form and transferring the data into Marketo, but it made simple the storing on the device a fully featured form you had built in the main application.
The Qualtrics app has some nice settings that work well for us on school visits, features that will probably see us extend the use to trade fails and international education events.
Transferring the data is a little manual and error prone at present, but working. A developer colleague has just started preparing an MSFlow automation to do this better.
Hi Mark,
We use a Marketo form at events which is on iPads, the form data is pushed into a campaign for the specific event in Salesforce and a task is automatically created and pushed out to the Telemarketing team with the persons information and any notes they have left so they can follow up with them. It works really well for us.
Thanks
Jen
Hi Jen
so the data capture through the ipad doesnt cause any confusion with cookies / activities? You are able to get multiple form submissions (new leads - or existing known contacts) into Marketo and synch into Salesforce, creating new leads in SF, or if known updating their existing records (matching by email address i assume?)
- this could be the answer ...!
Do you do anything specific to your forms to avoid confusion between the multiple submissions (ie have the ipad to act as a 'kiosk'?)
Many thanks
Mark
Hi Mark,
Yes that's correct, we embed the form onto a branded landing page and disable the form pre-fill so it clears every time someone submits it. It then pushes the persons details into the related Salesforce campaign which we ask it to do via a Marketo smart campaign and it will add them in either as a new lead or a contact if we already have them in Salesforce. The smart campaign is also set up to create a task to notify someone in Telemarketing that their is a new lead/contact in the campaign and it gives them the information they need to give them a call and discuss their needs.
I hope that helps
Thanks
Jen
You have to do more than disable Pre-Fill, as I explained above.
It's certainly possible to use a Marketo form for this if properly prepped. We do it many thousands of times per day.
Thanks for your time - I will definitely be trying this out.
Hey Diana,
Further to Veronica's response (jinx, was gonna say the same thing), if the app doesn't suit your use case - Marketo forms can be a great alternative.
Personally I don't use the app as the kinds of events my org runs aren't the kind people register for in advance - and that's always been the kind of thing the event check in app is best suited for. For non-registration events, tradeshows, etc, I just embed a standardised Marketo form into a Marketo landing page for the event. Being a Marketo form, no need for a new plug in for data flow, everything tends to go pretty reliably, plus it can be used by either staff or customer, and on basically any device.
Hope that helps
Remembering to disable munchkin tracking on the Marketo LP...
Yes! Definitely don't forget that step...
Need more than that. A referral form will still post an existing Munchkin cookie from the same parent domain.
If you can ensure that such a cookie is never set on the "kiosk" tablet/laptop, then disabling Munchkin on the registration LP is sufficient. But if anyone ever navigates to your corporate site on that machine (which is certainly likely at an event!) you'll be polluting the Activity Log.
What you need to do is remove the Munchkin cookie from the form data. It actually doesn't matter if Munchkin is enabled on the registration LP once you do that.
And this!
This is why I'd be awful without templates. I forget that I have borrowed all of these things from you at various points in time
