How to connect to existing database for IP address tracking

Hi Community

Does anybody know how to add javaScript to Munchikin so that I can make use of a different database where company names and IP address are associated.

I understand it gets possible by using RTP but I rather want to use the existing database and transfer the info to Marketo datebase for unknown leads.

Any insights are welcome!

Thanks in advance

Tad

Hi hiroshi tadokoro,

You would rather do it at database level, using webhooks to call the database, passing the ip address and returning the company name.

Hi Greg-san

Thanks for your quick feedback!

Do you have any specific information about which type of Webhook should I

use to achieve this?

Hopefully I want to pass the info to IT people.

Best,

Tad

Hi again Hiroshi-San

The webhook doc is here : Webhooks » Marketo Developers but it will not tell you much about how to develop the webservice itself.

Re: How to connect to existing database for IP address tracking

I'm confused, doesn't Marketo do this already for Anonymous and Known leads via reverse IP lookup?

Are you saying:

  • you want to push this data to another database?
  • you want to use another IP list database to improve the associations?

Re: How to connect to existing database for IP address tracking

Hi Josh,

That's right, Marketo is already offering the reverse IP info. I do not know how accurate this is in the US, but in Europe, 95% of leads reverse IP give the name of the Internet Access Provider. Not very useful

Some vendors (including Marketo's RTP) are offering databases that have a greater accuracy. Some even provide a Marketo connector to insert this info in the database, but one could be considered using a webhook call to get this info on the fly.

Hence this idea :

Re: How to connect to existing database for IP address tracking

Josh & Greg,

Thanks for your advice.

I agree with Greg and I have very poor accuracy in IP reverse functionality

here in Japan so I've been looking for the way where I can know Unknown's

company name by making use of a different service than RTP.

Now I understood I should create a webhook to pass the info to munchikin.

Thanks

Tad

Re: How to connect to existing database for IP address tracking

You won't be passing the info "to Munchkin."

You will be using the webhook to pass the IP address to your outside service and enrich new custom fields on the lead.

Although you can also look up enriched information about addresses from the client side (i.e. without using a webhook) that will not give you a real advantage over the webhook, since it still will not replace the inferred IP info and you will still need to write it onto new fields on the lead.
