Hi,
Email gone out with the broken link, can editing the link will resolve the issue? I guess no. Please confirm
You can create a new redirect in Admin so that the bad link resolves to the correct link.
Dan's suggestion is correct when redirecting a Marketo landing page but if the page goes to an non Marketo page I don't believe there is a way to fix this.
Redirect a URL Path - Marketo Docs - Product Docs
Andy
That's correct - if it's a domain other than your CNAME defined in Marketo, you would need to create that redirect on that server instead.
how do you create a redirect rule on the server?
Which server?
In your Marketo instance, Redirect Rules are under Admin » Landing Pages » Rules.
On a non-Marketo server, you will have to involve the manager of the webserver (Apache, IIS, nginx, etc.) who will be on the IT side.
I cannot create the redirect rule here Admin » Landing Pages » Rules – because it’s not a landing page that I am redirecting. It’s these marketo URLs – see below. The option you are suggesting only works if I had the link going to a landing page.

Naturally, you can't redirect a URL whose domain you do not control at all! (You can't make changes to the webserver listening at na-ab11.marketodesigner.com.)
However, these links should have been rewritten to bounce off your branding domain, which you do control. Are you saying those na-ab11.marketodesigner.com links appear in the email itself? (Not after clicking the link, but while hovering over the rendered link in the email client.)
Yes - we accidently pasted the url to the marketo page instead of copying the landing page url. Is there no way to add a redirect in this case? So if we ever send an email and embed the wrong link in error – are you saying that there is no way of fixing this?
You haven't actually answered my question, but if those na-ab11.marketodesigner.com links were sent to everybody -- again, talking about the links present in the received email, not the links after redirection -- you cannot change where the people go when they click.
Same as if you sent a link to http://www.google.com or any domain you do not control and the links were not rewritten to your branding domain.
If the links were rewritten to go to your branding domain (go.plustravelgroup.com or similar) then you actually can, through desperate measures, rewrite the links.
Ok, thank you. I understand now. Appreciate the prompt response.
So... were your links rewritten or not?
No they can’t be rewritten as they are linking to Marketo URLs which as you pointed out - I have no control over. Thanks anyway tho.
You're still not following the question, Kim.
I'm asking what the links appear as in the email body. Don't click the link! Just tell me what the URL is when you hover over it.
Yup, contact the target site's manager and ask for a 301 redirect. Helpful if you lay it out plainly and exactly for them, provide the two URLs.
We linked to here:
www.website.com/badurl
We should have linked to here:
www.website.com/goodurl
Mention how many emails were sent and what the purpose was to help them prioritize.
If it's a tracked link, you can temporarily take control of your tracking domain and rewrite the destination link (regardless of the destination domain).
Had an urgent situation a few months ago with a typo in a link and had to do just that.
Also note this is the only way to rewrite direct links to downloadables like PDFs (redirect rules won't work there).
Hi Ashish,
Once the email has gone out the link can not be changed.
