You might find a specialist PR or journalist and ask them if they know freelancers. You can also search for subject matter experts who might have a blog or are semi-retired. I had great success with some non full time lawyers who knew our area of expertise.
Bummer, I was actually really starting to like Brafton...I liked that they claim to do everything in-house (including video production/graphic design/writing).
We've been working with Column Five and they've been fantastic. Josh's recommendation of finding subject matter experts in the industry is right on, as well. It's a bit of work at first, but worth it.
