Choose a non-local email in email programs?

We have a pain point of not being able to choose any email when using email programs, which can only send local emails. https://experienceleague.adobe.com/docs/marketo/using/product-docs/email-marketing/email-programs/em...

Default programs can send any email in Marketo which is what we want to do for email programs. I can see at least one thread about this from 2015 https://nation.marketo.com/t5/product-discussions/email-program-choose-non-local-emails/m-p/35792#M8... but no follow up that I can see. 

Any news?

I think it's just the way the Email programs are designed and built. As of now and until this changes (which I don't think will anytime soon), you would have to use a smart campaign if you aren't willing to clone/create the email as a local asset in the Email program.
