Adding UTM Parameters to email links

Hello,

This is kind of a simple question, but we would like to add UTM parameters to the links in our emails to be able to track an email lead versus an organic or paid visitor to our websites. We are wondering if adding parameters, however, will interfere or "break" Marketo's tracking abilities since Marketo adds tracking code to the end of the links after they are clicked in email.

Thank you!

Laura

No, nothing breaks. If it did, that would mean you could never link to a URL with a query string! (utm_* params are just like any other query params, they just are used for source tracking by force of habit.)

Re: Adding UTM Parameters to email links

Hi Laura,

I had the same concern, but it works out fine.

You add the ?utm_source=whatever after the landing page URL (if you are promoting a landing page) and then marketo will add the email tracking code after.

When you add your UTM links and test it you will see that the tracking code is automatically added after.
