I'd love to have a link generator tool like bit.ly or ow.ly that we can use but provides a mechanism for tracking so we can measure clicks on offsite locations - e.g. partner sites or other third party.
There are plenty of url shortening services that provide thorough clickthrough tracking and also allow you to redirect shortened urls after the fact. Quite handy. goo.gl and bit.ly both offer shortening w/tracking, among plenty of others. I think all you have to do to get tracking from bit.ly is to register an account and log in.
Clinton I gave up on this being a feature and I went out and got a vanity URL from Hootsuite. It plugs into my existing hootsuite account and makes link shortening a breeze.
Thanks guys - I'm familiar with those services, but I was hoping to have something more integrated so I didn't have yet another data point to factor in and I wanted to be able to have Marketo triggers listening in...
I'm with Clnton, here. Our need: we'd like to track links in a pdf, and have all that activity recorded to directly to our lead in Marketo.
Link shorteners will give basic facts like when a link was clicked, how many times, and what social network it was shared, but a built-in Marketo link shortener could, ideally, track a user's actions much like analytics track navigation through website.
This feature is available in Pardot as well. Marketo, this would be a really handy tool for us to shorten those URLs especially in the emails as several people already mentioned in addition to better tracking for view-through, click-through, and custom conversion points all integrated in Marketo would be amazing!
I would also like to have that feature in Marketo. Until now we used goo.gl links for example in our Email signature in order to track link clicking there. But we made the experience that there are some companies now blocking Emails of our employees as goo.gl links are defined as spam.
