This may be too late to help, but for future reference Marketo Support once let me know that if you start a smart campaign and need to abort it, go to the Flow step and remove the email. It was prevent the email from going out to anyone who has not yet hit that flow step. It doesn't always get every...
Unfortunately the way our SFDC instance is configured it will not sync unless spelled out. I wish I could have these campaigns as batch rather than trigger, but it doesn't look like it will be possible until our SFDC admin is willing to change things.
