We use hidden SFDC Campaign ID field on forms so that we can tag URLs to drive traffic to existing landing pages. In each marketing program we have smart campaign listening for that ID and they get pushed to the approprate campaign in SFDC.

Yes it will work even if the field is required.Marketo must have put that into play when designing Forms 2.0 that fields that are hidden are not required even if they are mandatory and will kick in when visible. Just to make sure I tested it again just now and it worked, but try it for yourself.
