Hi Leah - not a bad idea. We just capture this in the Lead Source field only - Sales Prospecting. I'm interested to hear how other marketers treat these leads.
I'm not aware of any other messages. I do get errors sometimes if the lead I'm importing has a bad email address (such as not containing a @).
You could add URL Paramaters containing the author's name to each link in the actual piece of content. If the lead completes a form on the next page, that data will be captured in a hidden form. It might be too manual to add URL paramaters to every link included on the piece of content, however.

You can.Go to Admin -> Field Management -> Click on the field -> click on the name of the field in the center canvas then edit. For custom fields, the only requirement is that the field is NOT used by any assets in Marketo for you to be able to rename them.
