Anyone have an issue with approval times? Longest one yet...

I'm just working through my todo list and wrapping up my day – la di da – but it looks like I have a little rogue autoresponder email that may be adverse to change.

Just curious if anyone else has seen this before?

David Gallagher,

Usually in cases like this I refresh my browser and try to re-approve the Landing Page or Email.

One thing to take note of is whether this seems to happen at the same time every day for you.

If this is the case, I would recommend checking to see what may be running as well, campaigns or nurture programs, that may be causing some delay or latency in your Marketo instance.

At my company, we have seen that at certain times, but mainly on campaign runs and not approvals, there is latency due to our nurture programs going out.  This is usually in the form of other campaigns with wait steps, that inherently have lower priority in Marketo, being "pushed" lower in the Campaign Queue (as can be seen from going to Marketing Activities > click on Partition > click Campaign Queue.

Another thing to check is how large is your lead database size? And the number of fields in use.

These things can start slowing our instance as well.

Re: Anyone have an issue with approval times? Longest one yet...

Thanks for the input! Glad to know we're not alone .

The slowing is quite inconsistent. I have been using terminal to ping app-sn01.marketo.com. I have found that in most cases we have extremely low latency, but 1 in 5 times i start the ping test our times jump from 3-10ms to 190-350ms not able to tie this to a specific ip or ip rang but am working on it. Once I have more data, I figure i'd turn it over to the support folks at mkto.

As far as size, its not very large nor hyper-active -- about 180k leads. I've seen databases with over a million and full of "has opportunity" triggers that have never slowed this much. My other thought, like email IPs is the noisy neighbor situation... will cross that later.

Thanks again and hope to see you in Vegas!

Another thing to check is if there is any specific time of day, and if there are any on-demand or batch campaigns running at that time.

In a multi-user instance this can easily happen.

Also, if there are mass CRM updates going on around these times, that can also cause a backlog and the sync to be delayed.

Not that this should affect what you are doing, but just a note to keep in the back of your mind!

See you in Vegas!

Good call Geoff!

I did ultimately find the reason for the prolonged approval...

Found out that "Munchkin" is actually a job title at marketo. They're in charge of flipping the switches every time someone approves anything. Turns out our dedicated Munchkin was out grabbing a beer after we inadvertently made him stay later than expected.

Cheers,

David
