Before activating an email campaign, what is the best way to test that all the smart campaign steps are working (sent, unsubscribed, clicked on link etc) . For example, should you clone the campaign and create a test version?
There is no test system in Marketo, but I always use my personal email for testing. Afterwards you can just delete "yourself" as a lead
We test our campaigns by either sending a sample email or running a test send within the same campaign to ourself or a select few internal folk.
Just make sure that all your smart campaigns are activated (triggers for confirmation emails etc) and you should be able to test your flow's pretty fine.

Depending on how confident you are with the system you could use a couple of different approaches:
You can clone everything and ensure you are the only person eligible for the campaigns you are testing (using filters in the smart list). This approach will ensure the actions you took in testing will be separate from the "live" campaigns.
You could also add yourself to the target list and then add a filter to limit the smart list to your test lead only. Then you could test the live campaigns (again, you would have to be very careful in ensuring that you are the only lead eligible for the campaign).
