Welcome Series for Prospects

I'm trying to figure out the best way to set up a Welcome Series (4 emails) for prospects who subscribe to our emails.  I've referenced a few articles, but can't figure out if it should be set up as a Smart Campaign (Triggered) https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000KytSCAS or a New Program https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000L7cYCAS

Thanks!

Re: Welcome Series for Prospects

Hi Brenda,

Yes, you could definitely set this up as a triggered campaign with wait steps in between the emails. Or you could set it up as a nurture program. It depends on your business needs. If you think you'll be swapping out the emails or adding new ones, the ease of that in engagement programs is a bonus. I'd think through this and also what path you'd like for the leads to take after the 4 emails and that may help make the decision 🙂

Re: Welcome Series for Prospects

Thanks for the response.  Can you give some examples of why you would choose one over the other?  We ultimately want people to subscribe to our monthly product.  I'm not clear on what the difference between triggered campaign with wait steps and nurture program are.  The flow I am trying to achieve is:

User subscribes to our emails:
  • 1 Day later: Email 1: Welcomes and Introduces product with discount code
  • 3 Days later: Email 2: Article on our blog
  • 5 Days later: Read reviews (Don't take our word for it)
  • 7 Days later: Check out our social community (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest)

Re: Welcome Series for Prospects

A nurture campaign is set up the same way as a triggered campaign, but the difference is in what you're trying to get the leads entering to do. A nurture would slowly warm up the leads to take some sort of action, like sign up for a demo, request pricing, or straight-up convert. You can set them up as a triggered program, or as an engagement engine.

Re: Welcome Series for Prospects

HI Brenda, at this stage it sounds like it would be simplest to set this up as a triggered drip campaign.

That said, if you plan on expanding in the future, for example: if someone does something after receiving email 1, 2 or 3, and you wouldn't want them to receive the subsequent emails but instead you'd prefer them to go to another, more advanced "stream", then an engagement program would be preferable since it can pull them into the next stream once they do the actions you were looking for.

Hope that helps in your decision-making, but feel free to write back with any additional questions!
