Question,

We have an email going out with a link to the landing page in Marketo.

Do we need to create UTM codes for this link in the email? Will it track people anyways since both email and lp are made in Marketo?

Thanks,

Depends on where you want to see the report. If you are looking at Marketo reports - You don't need UTM to track if that person visited any LP that has munchkin tracking code. It is tracked by default.

If you want to track how many clicks email channel generated for that LP in Google analytics then you should use UTM

So you don't care about attribution? Do you understand what you'll be missing now?

The fact that they visited the page, but not the attribution of that Visited Web Page activity. Which is why "tracked" is too vague to answer in only one way.

What are you trying to track? "Track people" is too vague.

The general answer is yes, unless there's one and only one way to arrive at the base LP URL (one-to-one relationship between campaign and LP) you should UTM-tag your links.
