We are going through our Marketo leads and purging those we aren't actively communicating with (hard-bounces, no email address, etc.).
We currently sync with Salesforce and I want to be able to set up parameters so that the leads deleted from Marketo won't sync back into the system with the salesforce sync.
Can anyone provide some guidance/support on that?
There are several threads on this.
The short answer is you cannot. The lead would not necessarily sync immediately back to Marketo unless the lead data changes.
The lead can come back to Marketo via form fill out too.
You could set a flag on the SFDC side that says "Do Not Sync" and set this bfore you delete the lead in Marketo. Then make your Marketo user not see those leads.
Thanks... couldn't find the threads through searching so I appreciate your quick response.
Josh Hill - I'm following your advice for the Do Not Sync field and have had it created by our sales ops team. Not sure how to make the Marketo user not see these leads though - how can this be done in SFDC? I understand the field itself should not be hidden from the Marketo user but not sure how to hide the leads so they don't sync back in. I would greatly appreciate any details on how to get this done!
If I am understanding you correctly you could set up a custom sync with Marketo customer support to only sync certain leads. To do this I have created a custom field in SFDC called "sync to Marketo" it is a check box field. Marketo can then set up the custom sync to only sync leads that have that box checked off. You can then control this field within SFDC using workflows.
What you should actually do is hide Leads where Do Not Sync=T from the Marketo User on the SFDC side.
On the Marketo side, just make sure Do Not Sync=F whenever you sync over the first time.
