Segments & Snippets

Hi,
We are building a web page with information about 12 different solutions.  The webpage visitor will select the Solutions they are interested in, fill out a short form and the lead will be pushed to Marketo.  I have set-up a boolean field on the lead record for each of the 12 solutions.  These flags will be set to TRUE as the Lead info is passed to Marketo.  We want to dynamically build an email to deliver a snippet of copy for whatever combinarion of the 12 solutions the webpage visitor selects.

Here's my question:

Can we use snippets to build this dynamic email if we are not using Segmentation?  We can't segment the leads by the 12 solutions because the person may select multiple.

Thanks in advance for any assistance/advise!

Re: Segments & Snippets

Kristin,  I'm curious if you've found a solution to this? We are looking to do a similar thing at our tradeshows by sending electronic literature for each item selected.

Re: Segments & Snippets

Unfortunately, snippets only become dynamic when applied to a segmentation.  Otherwise, it's just static content.  Here's a great article describing this: http://community.marketo.com/MarketoTutorial?id=kA250000000Kz11CAC

Re: Segments & Snippets

 As you have set up a Boolean field on the lead record for each of the 12 solutions, you can make a token for all Boolean fields. Either you can use those tokens in the mailers directly, or you can make a snippet for all the tokens and use them.

Re: Segments & Snippets

Hi Caroline,
We did find a neat solution. Because we couldnt use Segments and thus no Snippets we used a token and placed our custom code in the snippet.

I would be happy to share a sample of the email so you can see the results.  Feel free to email me.

Here is a sample of the code.

@JT, the link you provided is not valid.  Can you please re-post this?  Trying to learn as much about snippets/segments as possible?

Re: Segments & Snippets

We have an app that allows users to select different literature that they want to be sent to them. We wanted to create and email that included only the options that the user selected.

We did something similar to what Kristen did, and it's working very well. Instead of using a snippet, we created a token that was local to the program. Within that token we used what's called "email scripts" and customized our code there. Then we included the token within our email.

Here is our example:

#if (${lead.request.contains("Product Portfolio")})
<table cellpadding="0" border="0" width="100%" ><tr><td valign="middle" style="vertical-align:middle" width="201"><img border="0" style="vertical-align:middle" valign="middle" width="201" src="IMAGE LINK”/>
</td><td valign="middle"><p style="color: #000000; font-size: 18px; line-height: 19px; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 18px;"><a href="DOCUMENT LINK "> Product Portfolio </a></span></p></td></tr></table>
#end

#if (${lead.request.contains("Software")})
<table cellpadding="0" border="0" width="100%" ><tr><td valign="middle" style="vertical-align:middle" width="201"><img border="0" style="vertical-align:middle" valign="middle" width="201" src="IMAGE LINK" />
</td><td valign="middle"><p style="color: #000000; font-size: 18px; line-height: 19px; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 18px;"><a href="DOCUMENT LINK">Software </a></span></p></td></tr></table>
#end

Etc.....

You can find the information on the email scripts here: https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000LB9MCAW

This was actually much simpiler than it appears, but I think it depends on the logic behind the code. We basically used the "if/then" logic, so it was relatively simple.
