We recently removed the 'Is Anonymous' filter from our smart campaigns. These were mainly used to ensure only known leads can qualify in our lead lifecycle campaigns. As a result, anonymous leads that reach our MQL threshold are now included in the MQL alerts that get sent to our sales and marketing teams. Obviously these alerts contain no known user information - it's all blank. I thought that anonymous leads weren't even referenceable anymore? How are we supposed to filter out these leads now that this filter is no longer supported? As a band-aid approach, we could filter on "if name AND company are not empty", but I was hoping for a more solid/foolproof approach.

Hi Dan
You can add a "Lead was Created" filter without time constraint. It will filter out anonymous leads.

Thanks Greg. I'm assuming then this filter will qualify anyone that has an activity type of "New Lead"?
Hi again Dan,
Yes, that's why my tests show.
And the "Not lead was created" will restrict the smart campaign to anonymous leads only.

Greg,
This is an excellent work around! Until the Munchkin V2 piece rolls out to actually remove the anonymous leads, they'll still react to campaigns even though they're not accessible.
I turned your work around into a new Troubleshooting Support KB doc that you can find here:
TROUBLESHOOTING Anonymous Lead Upgrades – Workaround Great work around!
I wanted to check in and let you guys know that the work around of using the "Lead Created" filter is being reviewed for possible impact after the Munchkin V2 rollout later this year. It will work as described right now, but may have an impact once the Munchkin V2 upgrades are pushed out later on. Once reviewed, I'll update the doc created for that work around, TROUBLESHOOTING Anonymous Lead Upgrades – Workaround so keep an eye on that doc for updates.
Thanks Mike. Now following that doc so that I'll receive a notification once it's become official.
Greg,
I'd be very careful using the "Lead was Created" filter. I reviewed it with our Product team and we realized it will cause problems with the Munchkin V2 lead promotion process. Check out TROUBLESHOOTING Anonymous Lead Upgrades – Workaround for all of the full details. There's also an alternative work around in there now that would work much better without the risk of trouble down the road.
The upgrades are a two-step process. The first part is to remove the "Is Anonymous" filters and to remove access to the anonymous leads. The second step is to change the lead promotion behavior, which is the Munchkin V2 part.
The first part is done--the "Is Anonymous" filter has been removed and anonymous leads are no longer directly accessible, plus all other changes in the UI have been completed. However, the Munchkin V2 piece has not yet been rolled out yet. What this means is, even though the filters have been removed and the anonymous leads are not accessible, those anonymous leads still exist in the lead database and are still able to trigger active campaigns. It's a middle period between the two pieces of the upgrade.
The second part for Munchkin V2 will be what changes the lead promotion process and prevents the anonymous leads (that still exist currently) from triggering campaigns. It will also fully remove the anonymous leads themselves instead of just removing access to them, which is where we're at now.
The rollout of Munchkin V2 is going to be a staggered release through Q2 & Q3. There is no way to know specific times on when this will be rolled out to any particular server group. The release schedule we had posted can be found here: Anonymous Lead Upgrades – Release Schedule
Hope this helps!
Dan Stevens, Please check out the TROUBLESHOOTING Anonymous Lead Upgrades – Workaround doc. It's been revised with a new work around that would work better for your scenario. After reviewing the "Lead Was Created" work around, I would be very careful in using it. There will be problems once Munchkin V2 rolls out. Check out TROUBLESHOOTING Anonymous Lead Upgrades – Workaround for all the full details.
