If a lead re-subscribes and opts back in to an engagement program they were previously part of, will they automatically change from "paused" to "normal"? Or do we need a smart campaign set up to do this?

1. If they are unsubscribed they will not get the email, but we never change them to "Paused"

Doesn't this depend on how this was done?
if Unsubscribes, they just won't get the email. Do they also become Paused automatically?
if Unsubscribes and you deliberately Pause or Remove, then yes, you will need to use a campaign to restart them.

You will need to run a smart campaign to "Unpause" a person in an engagement program.
