As part of recent updates, we’ve decided to add a new status to our Event Program channel. Since our programs are synced with Salesforce campaigns, I wanted to confirm before start implementing: If we implement this change now, will it affect any of the old programs that are already connected to Salesforce campaigns?

Adding a new Event Program channel status in Marketo will not retroactively affect existing programs already synced with Salesforce campaigns.

Incorrect.
The new status applies to all previously synced programs as well. And as the new status will be available for all program members, if you were to set a member to the new status, the status would not be able to sync to SFDC unless the SFDC campaign were modified to match.
