We have multiple folders for our 35+ business units in one intance of Marketo and our database is shared. What is currently happening is if a lead unsubscribes from a communication, it gets opted out from all business units' communications. However, we want that if a lead opt outs from one Business Unit's communication, he/she should not be barred from sending other units' communications. Is there any solution?
We thought about having separate opt out fields for each business unit and use that field in every campaign that we create to prevent from sending email. However, what if we forget to add the field? Is there any other solution?
There are some great resources on this:

Is it possible to set up different unsubscribe footer content for different emails?
Custom unsubscribe email footers in Admin ?
But if I could make a recommendation - 35 different options may be overwhelming. If possible, create overarching communication categories such as Industry A News, and Industry B News, or Product Tips.
As for preventing unsubscribes from receiving email - solid process documentation and being disciplined about using program templates based on communication type.
