New Members vs. Members

Summary: Having a problem reconciling new members, members and members of a program with a acquisition date.
Revenue Explorer report shows total membership and new members for a prgram in October 2014.
The new members, I assume are the people acquired by the program in October?
The 'members' field is all members in the program in October 2014?
But when I run a smart list outside of RE, to double check the number of 'new members', which I assume are people with an acquisition date in October in that program, the numbers do not match.
What am I doing wrong???

Can you tell us exactly what your smart list looks like? And what the RCE report is looking at?

It may be a difference of Acquisition Date vs. Lead Created Date. Ideally they'd be the same, but it's possible they are not. Also if you look at Net New (Acquired by) vs. Other Members, their creation dates will be different.
